Consider taking the following actions:

  • Follow the HSE disturbed asbestos flow chart at the bottom of this page.
  • Move away from the source of contamination and to fresh air.
  • Put on RPE / PPE if available
  • Avoid spreading the contamination.
  • Keep other people out of the area, lock doors, put up warning signs.
  • Remove contaminated clothing and shower if possible.
  • It is unlikely you'll get in trouble at this stage (nothwithstanding wilful negligence), be aware that failing to stop work after knowingly disturbing asbestos is a criminal offence.
  • Tell the person in charge of the building what has happened as soon as possible.
  • Call us for advice on what to do next.
